Water

Quick reference for Hoover Reservoir — maps, depth structure, pool vs the ODNR chart, and public ramps. Notebook voice. Not a navigation chart.

Maps & depth

Official public maps only — open in a new tab. I do not host or scrape Garmin / Navionics (or any commercial chart). Contours are reference, not for navigation.

Pool & temp correction

ODNR contour depths assume a summer pool of 894 ft NGVD29. When the lake sits below that, every printed contour is a little high relative to today’s water.

Pool elevation 892.97 ft NGVD29 (USGS provisional, param 62614) · map drawn at 894 · contours about 1.03 ft high.

Pool checked: . Live USGS gauge.

Water temp 28.3 °C (~82.9 °F) · · param 00010 · provisional snapshot

Snapshot labeled provisional. Browser may refresh pool + temp from USGS IV; on failure shows unavailable — never invented.

How to read this (pool vs hole depth, 894 contours, gauge temp, provisional data, 10 HP reservoir).

Snapshot above is real USGS data copied in by hand (or refreshed from the public IV JSON when the browser allows). On fetch failure this page keeps the static snapshot or marks unavailable — it never invents a level.

Structure key

First-person notebook — how I read the lake for cats and low-light predators.

Ramp / access

Public names only. No private property, no secret GPS pins. Always verify hours, closures, and ice/flood with the City or ODNR before you launch.

Ramp / area Boat vs bank Useful note
Oxbow Boat + bank Upper end; quieter after dark when traffic thins.
Redbank Boat + bank Middle-lake access; common SAMPLE log spot here.
Walnut Road Boat + bank Lower ramp toward the dam; flats vs nearby drop.
Maxtown Boat + bank Public ramp name on the city layout — check hours.
Marina / lower marina Boat (services vary) Lower-end marina area on public maps; confirm open status.
General bank Bank Public shoreline only — stay off private docks and yards.

Fishing after dark can be dangerous in storms, heat, and low visibility. Wear a life jacket when the situation calls for it. Contours are not for navigation. Confirm licenses, limits, and closures yourself.
The Night Bite is unofficial and personal — not ODNR, not the City of Columbus, and not USGS. This page is a notebook, not an official bulletin.
